Audio and video
Audio and video recordings are recordings of music, drama, dance, radio and tv. You can find recordings in Supersearch, card catalogues and in databases.
Finding audio and video on CD och DVD
Use Supersearch to find audio and video recordings on CD and DVD in the Library's collections. You can search for author, composer, artist or title and limit your search to Audio Visual under publication type.
When you have found CDs and DVDs and want to borrow them
When you find CD and DVD in Supersearch you can see if they are available and where they are located. Most of the them are located at the Music and Drama Library. You must collect available CDs and DVDs from the shelf yourself. If the CDs and DVDs are loaned to someone else, you can join the waiting list.
Finding audio recordings on vinyl records
In the Humanities Library there are two large collections of LP vinyl records, mainly classical western and ethnic music. The collections are indexed in card catalogues. Ask the staff for help with using the card catalogues and requesting records. You can borrow the records or listen to them in a media studio at the Humanities library.
Finding databases with audio and video
You can use the Library's databases to find audio and video recordings of music, drama, dance, radio and tv. Use the Media type limiter Audio recordings or Video recordings.

Students and staff at the University of Gothenburg can access the databases through the university network, or by logging in with the GU account when outside of campus. Everyone visiting the University Library can use our computers to access the databases.
If we don't have the recordings you need
Suggest a purchase
If you need an audio or video recording which is not in the University Library's collections, you can make a purchase suggestion. We will let you know if we can purchase the recording and if so when it will be available for you to borrow.
Find recordings on The National Library
The National Library of Sweden has large audiovisual collections. The collections consist mainly of material from 1979 and onwards. The holdings include Swedish records, television and radio programs broadcasted from Sweden, cinema film and video film distributed in Sweden. The collections also include recordings until 2010 from Göteborgs stadsteater, Backa teater och Folkteatern.
Use The Swedish Media Database (SMDB) to find material from the audiovisual collections. You request the material yourself. The National Library will then send a copy to the Humanities Library where you can listen to or watch the recording in the library's media studio.
Media studio at the Humanities Library
You can book a media studio at the Humanities Library to use the audio- and video recordings from the University Library and the National Library. The room is equipped with a vinyl player, cassette deck, VHS-, CD- and DVD players. If needed, a tape recorder can be brought to the room.
You can book the media studio four hours at a time with a GU card or a library card. Contact the information desk at the Humanities Library to book the media studio.
